Telemetry monitoring is a continuous electrocardiogram (EKG) reading that shows the electrical activity (rhythm) of the heart. It is often a necessary step in patient diagnosis and recovery. Through tekemetry, a physician can pinpoint the moment heart rhythm changes occur, such as when the heart reacts to the initiation of or a change in medication, ambulation, and surgery of any number of activities or interventions. A telemetry system enables staff members to continuously observe a patient’s heart rhythm from a centralized monitoring station.
State-of-Art Telemetry equipment is wireless allowing for full patient monitoring even as they are moved to different units within the hospital, and currently available in the ED, ICU, Tele, 5 South, and remote to Medical/Surgical Units. Currently working on funding to bring house-wide wireless and continual monitoring to Crdiac Rehab, CCU, PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), and OR.
The system will be interfaced with the EMR, so physicians can access patients’ files on line, and be able to check vital signs online from remote locations to VHH.
